WHO WE ARE
Dr. Michael Best co-founded the firm in 1998. It became operational in January 1999. Prior to founding the firm, Michael Best had been deputy head of the trademark department of Hoechst AG - later Hoechst Marion Roussel - and handled a global portfolio of trademarks, designs and other non-technical intellectual property rights as well as licensing, advertising and unfair competition matters of the group for many years.
The firm was established as a spin-off from the Hoechst group when its service functions were decentralized. Among the firm’s early clients were the many companies, subsidiaries and joint ventures which resulted from the restructuring of the Hoechst group. Many of these are still valued clients. Yet, the client base of BEST Rechtsanwälte has changed and broadened substantially and now extends across numerous sectors of industry and commerce. The firm’s clients include national and international pharmaceutical and chemical companies, power and automotive companies, cosmetics and fashion labels, name creation agencies and industrial designers, public bodies and numerous SMEs to name just some.
Since its foundation, the firm has continued to grow and currently the team consists of five experienced attorneys, as well as a motivated and trusted team of paralegals and support staff. In January 2009, the firm was able to strengthen its position by taking on board a new partner, Udo Pfleghar, who came to the firm after several years of being the head of group responsible for the trademarks, designs and domains at the Boehringer Ingelheim group where he also dealt with matters of unfair competition and contracts. Previously he had worked as a senior examiner at the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (Trademarks and Designs) (now EUIPO) in Alicante, which he also represented in proceedings before the European courts in Luxembourg.
Since its beginning, the firm has focused on trademarks, designs, domains, on unfair competition and copyright matters and related rights to provide the best possible service to its clients in its areas of specialization and expertise.
