The Team

Simon Knoll LL.M.

Simon Knoll studied law at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and at the University of Szeged, Hungary. Early during his university studies, he wrote a paper on theoretical issues of copyright law.
After completing his first state examination, he did a master’s degree (LL.M.) at the University of Turin in cooperation with the World Intellectual Property organization (WIPO). In his thesis he addressed the issue of liability of intermediaries under the draft directive on copyright in the digital single market (later implemented as Directive (EU) 2019/790).
From 2019 to 2021, Simon Knoll underwent the legal clerkship at the Regional Court in Hanau and gained initial practical experience as a research associate in several law firms in the areas of IP, competition, information technology, data protection and sports law.
After the completion of his second state examination, Simon Knoll was involved in the publishing of a practical handbook for the field of sports law and started his career at BEST Rechtsanwälte in June 2021.
In 2024 he was granted permission to use the German title certified specialist attorney in the field of industrial property protection (Fachanwalt für Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz) by the bar association in Frankfurt am Main.
At BEST Rechtsanwälte he advises in the areas of trademark, design and copyright law as well as in unfair competition and data protection matters. He is member of the German Association for Intellectual Property Law (GRUR), the International Trademark Association (INTA) and the German-Spanish Lawyers’ Association (DSJV). Furthermore, he regularly attends conferences of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to observe current developments in the field of domain law and in order to endeavor the solving of insufficiently regulated issues in this field, i.e., issues relating to domain abuse, impersonation and fraud.
