Dr. Michael Best
Dr. Michael Best studied law in Mainz, Germany and in Dijon, France. He became first involved in Intellectual Property as a scientific assistant at the University of Mainz in 1987 where he also wrote a doctoral thesis (PhD) in trademark and unfair competition law.
He then worked at a large German auditing firm for two years before he joined the trademark department of the chemical and pharmaceutical company Hoechst AG as in-house counsel in 1992. He became deputy head of that department in 1997.
Michael Best co-founded the law firm under the name of Freitag & Best in 1998 and has worked as counsel to clients worldwide in all aspects of trademark, design, unfair competition, copyright and domain matters since 1999.
Michael Best is a member of the German Bar Association (DAV), the German-American Lawyers’ Association (DAJV) and various IP organizations, including the International Trademark Association (INTA) – where he has served on various committees for more than 25 years – the European Communities Trade Mark Association (ECTA), the Pharmaceutical Trade Marks Group (PTMG), the French Association of Trademark and Design Law Practitioners (Association des Praticiens du Droit des Marques et des Modèles – APRAM), and the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (Deutsche Vereinigung für gewerblichen Rechtsschutz und Urheberrecht – GRUR).
